College Library

The college library is the heart of an educational institution. It is known as a milestone in college education because the library plays a vital role in the development of the academic environment. The College library is the source of the widest knowledge.

Our college library being situated in the middle of the college campus is approachable easily by the faculty and the students.

When the college library was established in 1967 there were 1,067 books housed in a small room. Now the library has two spacious halls with more than 29,000 books and periodicals to serve its clientele.

Library Committee

There is a library committee that deals with all problems and issues of the library. It also approves the budget. The library has good infrastructure with all facilities to serve the students.

Objective

• To serve as a learning and information centre.
• To provide facilities for library automation.
• To make the library user-friendly.

Library Staff

There are Three members other than the librarian to serve the students and teachers :

• Library Bearer: Mr. Prakash Chand

Working Hours

The Library remains open from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM on all working days. In the evening time, it remains open from 05:00 PM to 07:00 PM.

Library Collection

The library has more than Twenty-Nine Thousand (29,000) books. We subscribed to 10 daily newspapers, Four in English and Six in Hindi language. 30 periodicals and 13 journals are also subscribed to the college library.

Sections

The Library consists of a big hall and library services have been extended by three sections :

• Two Reading Rooms.
• Reference Section.
• Circulation Section.

Reference Section

There is a separate reference section with a reference collection including Encyclopedia, Directories, Dictionaries, Maps and a collection of complete works of Mahatma Gandhi. This section has books of general knowledge and competitive examinations and a large number of students avail this facility for various competitive examinations.

Circulation Section

Students avail books borrowing facilities. Approximately 25-30 students avail this facility daily. They borrow books on library borrower’s cards and show the I-Card on the counter. A student can borrow two books at a time for one month failing which a fine is charged.

• The issue system is manual.
• Borrower registers are maintained.
• The accession number and date of issue are entered.
• Books are checked while returning the book.
• Librarian verifies the book return with signatures.

Departmental Libraries

We have also established five departmental libraries i.e. Department of Chemistry, Department of Physics, Department of Botany, Department of Zoology and Department of Geography.

SOUL Software

SOUL Software has been installed in the library. The database of 12,000 plus books has been created and in near future the database of all the collection would be created.

Digital/E Library

We have registered with N-LIST Programme of INFLIBNET since 2014-15. For these purpose, 8 computers have been installed with printer in the cabin. Teachers and students can access e-resources including about 1,00,000 plus e-books and 7,000 plus e-journals. We have provided about 200 login ID and passwords for teachers to access e-resources and those who don’t have login ID can use login ID of librarian pasted in the cabin.

Audio-Visual Room

LED Screen is also installed in the reading room for the benefit of the students as well as teachers who can watch educational channels in the room.

Reprography Service

For this purpose Xerox machine is fixed in the library. Students can avail Xerox copy of reading material of reference books or journals on nominal charges.

Best Library Reader Award

Best Library Reader Award is given to One Girl and One Boy each every Year Reader in order to encourage and inculcate reading habit among the students.
